Mat Romli, Sevu and Adriens's Farewell Game - Match Report

What a game we had on Friday! 35 players had turned up for Mat Romli, Sevu and Adriens's farewell match. Divided by odd's and evens, it was clear that Sevu and Adrien had the bulk of the younger boys and Mat Romli had ended up with some (ahem) "old-timers" the likes of Ray 'I saw-the-gap' Soh, Jerome, TJ, Jibrid, Vuni and Jude.

Nevertheless, the game was played with a 'passion' that is synonymous with the COBRA name. Tackles from both teams were of similar intensity as when we play RSC. As if getting caught in the bottom of a ruck is not bad enough, one would learn quickly to get out of the away with the oncoming assault of TJ, Jerome and Ray Soh.

Playing with 18 men, first try had gone to Sevu/Adrien's team (which is called D15 by the way). A second try to D15 quickly brought Mat Romli's team into gear and they responded in  quick succession to level the scores at 2 tries each.

With light quickly fading, Mat Romli's team managed to get a last minute try through the unstoppable run of TJ from 10 meters out. The game ended with a score of 4 tries to 3 in favor of Sevu/Adrien's team.

Post match bonding at the club stretched past midnight and was aided by cupious amount of beer and 2 bottles of JD courtesy of Soo Chong and Uncle Rory. Add to that the usual sing-a-long sessions with Sevu and Mark Oi on the guitar (and Boon too with his rendition of the Gibb brothers); with Nicole, a singer with an amazing voice and the great catered food, the night, in my opinion, was an excellent way to say farewell to Mat Romli, Sevu and Adrien.

I have to thank KT, Col. Tommy, Margaret, Safar, Uncle Kang, Rashid 'Rat' Salleh, Mark Oi, TJ, Keng Meng, Khya Wing, Soo Chong and Uncle Rory and Naza for their contributions.

Special mention and thanks to Uncle Rory for arranging the food/beer and to Isoa and Vuni for manning the beer station and ensuring that beer was flowing through the night.
